Summer League (sponsored by NewsBeaT) - Season 2010-2011
Summer League 4 - 05 May 10
Thorburn was right in the mix again in the Newsbeat Summer League last week following another round of one under par 68 for 37 points but had to settle for second place as Willie Durrand had an inspired back nine to win on count back after he too had 37 points.
Durrand, on the other end of the handicap scale to scratch man Thorburn, followed up a 16 point front nine with 21 more on the way back. Thorburn failed to get his par at the third and ninth holes, both par threes, but birdied the fourth, seventh and eighth holes to be out in 34 shots.
This total was repeated on the way in with pars at every hole. Just failing to equal son-in-law Durrand.
Alan Simmonite claimed third place after a fine inward nine of 20 points gave him the nod over Donald Sutherland after both scored 36 points.
Match Secretary Angus Cameron and another committee man, Jason Simpson, were next best on 35 points.
