Top Squash Ref Visits - Season 2000-2001

Thurso Squash Club welcomed world referee Ian Allanach recently to give an informative and entertaining presentation on the sometimes vexed question of awarding lets or points. Mr Ahlanach has refereed at the very top level all over the world and the large attendance from both Wick and Thurso squash clubs enjoyed his instruction peppered with anecdotes about tight matches between the leading players. One of his most vivid memories was of refereeing a close match in Egypt which featured local favourite Ahmed Barada. He gave a stroke to the local boy's opponent on match ball and had to be escorted away from the venue (right next to the pyramids) by two rifle-toting soldiers.
