County Open - Season 2002-2003
A BIRD IN HAND...... - 22/03/03
The major honours went to Thurso in the County Championships held at Wick Squash Club.
James Henderson managed to lift the title for the ninth time since 1990 by beating Colin Paterson in a close match, with some long rallies.
Carole Mowat managed to secure the Ladies title by beating her Thurso colleague Jane Grant.
James Georgeson retained the Veterans trophy after a tight tussle with Willie Jappy.
Chris Taylor is a promising looking contender for the future - and at the age of 15 is already managing to beat some of the more experienced players. He beat Louis Morrill 3-0 in the final of the Junior event.
Davie Swanson had to contend with Willie Jappie's 'fancy lobs' into the back hand corner to lift the Mens plate. Since then Davie has been walking around like the 'Statue of Liberty' because his arm was in one position throughout the match, for so long.
John Georgeson added the county junior plate to the Junior Wick Squash Club title that he had won a couple of weeks previous, by beating Dexter Durrand.
