Excellent social and squash day in the summer - 30/06/07

The return of 'The Man', Dougie Sinclair.

The summer period is usually a quiet time of year at Thurso Squash Club but 24 keen players appeared on a roasting hot day to take part in the first summer tournament of the club's history.

Organised by club player and committee member, Ian Adamson and sponsored by eBiGH.com, it was decided that 4 teams of six would be the best format for the contest and each player would be up against their opposing number.

At the halfway stage, it was difficult to split any of the teams with the scores even at 12 points and there was a certain sense of excitement as the winner could be decided on the final game. As expected and, due to Ian's excellent formation and positioning of the teams, this was indeed the case.

James Henderson needed one point from his final game to lift the inaugural trophy and his fellow team members, Sean Miller, Alan Scott, Malcolm Lord, Dougie Sinclair & Lewis Vines waited in anticipation. This he dually did in a tight last game of the day to just sneak the trophy, in a contest that the difference between the top and bottom teams was only 2 points.

Chairman, Sandy Stewart presented the trophy to the jubilant winning team, praised the organisation and commented on his delight of how many players made the effort to attend this tournament in a normally dry spell, which bodes well for the future.
