Highland Team Event (Kirkwall, Orkney) - Season 2007 - 2008
Inverness youngsters triumph over older competition - 12&13/04/08

Eight teams travelled to Orkney for the honour of lifting the Annual Highland Team Event trophy.
This tournament is spread over 2 days, brings together a wide variety of competitors at different levels of play and pushes everyone to play for their team - not just individually, as every set, point is vital.
After a number of close matches, the final encounter was between the home team, Orkney (A) and youngsters, Inverness (A).
Robin Hammil got the Inverness side off to a good start by collecting the first point, which was swiftly brought back to evens by Mick Swannie, Orkney with a good win in a very tight match.
Euan Urquhart squeezed past Ian Stout to take the Inverness team 2-1 ahead and a number of sets up, to their advantage.
Adam Stanger, Orkney and Gary Mackay, Inverness finished the tournament with a fine contest. On this occasion, Adam was to be victorious on the very last point of the tournament, just winning 10-9 in the 5th set - to an appreciative audience who congratulated both players.
Overall, the Inverness youngsters were the worthy winners of this seasons' trophy and deserved all the plaudits. Congratulations to their coach/s - as this weekend was very much a discovery, education - whatever you want to call it - in the way this great game can be played and the youngsters certainly opened the eyes of many of the spectators.
Caithness (A) beat Caithness (B) 3-1 to take third spot and Orkney (B) managed to win the 'B' trophy, in rather bizarre circumstances, as Caithness (B) finished 4th???
Congratulations to Orkney for hosting an excellent tournament, thanks to ALL the organisers & caterers and we hope to see you all next season - wherever that maybe...???
