Taylor Handicap Trophy - Season 2007-2008 - 12&13/01/08

Winner - Colin Paterson

An entry of twenty one competitors entered the Taylor Trophy Handicap Tournament with all handicaps on this occasion being in the minus category.  Excellent squash was played throughout the tournament with many games being decided on the last point of the match.

Whether it was a 'Mystic Meg' phenomena or de-ja-vou, eventual winner, Colin Paterson had modestly predicted that he was going to be the winner of this tournament earlier in the week to eBiGH.com kiddie, Daisy.

After two days of hard work on the courts for finalists Colin Paterson and Jimmy Cassidy, it was more than appropriate that the final ended in the last set and on the very last point of the event, 15-14.

The more controlled play of Colin frustrated Jimmy by using the front of the court on a high percentage of the winning points, within the match.  Jimmy battled, produced a three set match and will lose sleep tonight thinking he should've finished the contest in the second set, if not the third - as he had a considerable lead in both sets.  But Colin held his nerve and finished the match leaving Jimmy wondering how he never secured the title earlier.

The plate competition was between Martyn Cook and last years plate winner, Chris Ambrose.  Chris battled tirelessly but Cook had the more decisive shots and pulled back the deficit to lift the trophy.

On a lighter note, well - some people wanted it mentioned... !!!  Big Bird was unfortunately, accidentally hit in the eye with a ball forcing him to lose sight in his left eye for a short spell and a rushed visit to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness was necessary.  On return the following day and with a cleaner bill of health, callous members of the club have now given him the tag, 'Captain Birds-Eye'...!!!

Thank you to everyone for a great weekend, Alison & Carol for excellent cooking and everyone who took part.
