Rolls-Royce League Trophy - Season 2000-2001
Steven Gunn pips Karen for League Trophy
The Thurso and District Squash Club League Championship was once again sponsored by Rolls-Royce Nuclear engineering Services Ltd. The contest runs for a full year with league points being tallied up on a monthly basis.
This year, with a record number of people playing in the 15 or so leagues, the championship was once again very popular. Up until the last month it could not be predicted who would be the eventual winner, with several players vying for the coveted title.
Hot favourite to regain the championship in the early stages was James Henderson, who started well but missed several important months due to injury.
Going into the last month the contest was between several players. Karen Campbell looked like a possible winner but some tough final games left her short of the required points.
Dougie Sinclair and Alistair Miller finished on the same points in third place, with Karen's sister Lynn only one point further behind.
The man who gained 23 points out of a possible 24 during the last month was Steven Gunn, who was crowned as this year's champion.
