Thurso Mortgage Shop League Trophy - Season 2002-2003
Veterans take the prizes
Thurso & District Squash Club League, sponsored by Thurso Mortgage Shop - which runs for a full year starting in October with league points being tallied up on a monthly basis, proved to be a battle between two veterans and one super veteran, this season.
With the honour of having your name placed in the now legendary, 'Carole Cameron Winners Corner' of the Squash Club - expectations were running high.
Ian McElroy had a fairly consistent journey throughout the season but only managed to accumulate as many points as his football team, in the last couple of months, leaving the door open for John Sutters to grab the limelight and steal 3rd prize. Unfortunately for John he required a full house in the last month and ended up fourth by 2 points.
Alan Williamson, the super-veteran, was the strong contender to lift the
title, as he had been leading the charge from month one but James Henderson, the
club champion, was slowly 'stelthing' his way up the leader board and was always
in contention to cause an upset. Disaster struck the Super-Vet with only 6
weeks to go, as he suffered a hernia injury which halted his plans to have his
name in lights - leaving the door open for James to add to his now bulging
trophy cabinet.
Although, Alan, miraculously made it back, the title was only going in one
direction - to Spring park, for the second time in 7 years.
Congratulations to everyone who took part throughout the season and Thurso Squash Club are always looking for new entrants into the leagues.
Thurso Mortgage Shop have decided to continue their sponsorship of the League Trophy, for the 2003-2004 season.
