Thurso Mortgage Shop League Trophy - Season 2004-2005
Brian wins the big trophy
Thurso Squash Club League sponsored by I&D Pollard Mortgage Shop - which runs for a full year starting in October with league points being tallied up on a monthly basis was won this year by Brian Farmer.
Brian is a keen squash player and consistently wins a selection of awards throughout the Thurso Squash Club season but to lift this trophy is an excellent feat. With three months remaining in the league system, Brian was pulling away from the rest of the pack making him the firm favourite for the title and, in the final month only an injury could have thwarted his chances. He reached the final post with ease and lifted the trophy with a few points to spare.
In the last month of this trophy there were three contenders in-line for second and third place. Richard Sharp has been close to collecting a league trophy prize in the last few years but has always falling away at the last few hurdles. This season there were no refusals and he held his nerve to secure second position. Carole Mowat began her assault for a prize in second place but by being placed in a tough league, there was always going to be a chance of her 'pulling up' and not accumulating enough points to hold her position. Coming from the rear, Linda Sinclair noticed points could be dropped and accordingly went into 'stealth mode' playing the squash of her life, mustering up sufficient points and just pipping Carole by one point for the third placed silverware.
An excellent end to the season but it all starts again and Thurso Squash Club are always looking for new entrants into the leagues.
Thurso Mortgage Shop have decided to continue their sponsorship of the League Trophy, for the 2005-2006 season.
